Chapter Five
The Ally Pally Alldayer

After the success of the 'National Soul Festivals' at Reading and two at Purley, promoter Pete Matthews and his partner John Kennedy set their
sights higher.
A one off alldayer was organised to be held in the main hall of the now fire gutted Alexandra Palace which is in North London, on Saturday the 1st June, 1978.
The same disc jockeys who were used at Purley were booked along with two British bands
Hi Tension and Central Line.
At least 6,000 people turned up that day. This large crowd however, seemed dwarfed by the gigantic expanse of the great hall.
It is interesting to note that this is where I first met Adrian Webb and John Morris of the now notorious Showstopper Promotions.
